Superstitious Colors
  • White: Associated with mourning and death.
  • Black: Linked to evil, death, and disaster.
  • Blue: Often associated with death as well.
  • Red: Considered a “happy” colour symbolising wealth, fame, and luck. However, writing in red is taboo as it's associated with blood and was historically used to deliver bad news or identify blood enemies.
Superstitious Numbers
  • Lucky numbers: The numbers 3, 8, and 9 are lucky because they sound like the words for “life,” “prosperity,” and “eternity.”
  • Unlucky numbers: 4 and 7. The number 4 sounds like “death” in Cantonese, so it’s common for high-rise buildings to omit floors containing the number 4 (e.g., 4, 14, 24). The number 7 is also considered unlucky.
