  • Be aware of appropriate attire when visiting a home or a religious building. Being shirtless, wearing singlets with thin straps that expose your shoulders and skirts that sit above the knee are sometimes considered too revealing in Kenya.
  • Kenya hosts large populations of people permanently displaced from surrounding nations, mainly Somalia and South Sudan, who reside in refugee camps for years or sometimes decades. People born in refugee camps who list their birthplace as Kenya may culturally identify with a different nationality. See Ethnic Demographics and Diversity in Core Concepts.
  • It is also important to recognise that not all Somalis in Kenya are refugees. For instance, the northeastern region of Kenya is home to a large population of native Kenyan Somalis.
