- Many Peruvians enjoy watching and playing football (soccer). It is common for children to be gifted a soccer ball as a birthday present. Football often acts as a way for people to bond, regardless of age.
- Open displays of the communist symbol of the hammer and sickle is greatly frowned upon in Peru due to the country’s turbulent political history (see Politico-Economic Changes and Internal Conflict in Core Concepts).
- Peru is the home of the ancient Inca Empire, famously known for its archaeological wonders such as Machu Picchu. However, contemporary Peruvian culture is diverse and distinct from its ancient heritage. Try to avoid making assumptions based on references in popular culture about the ancient civilisation of the Incas, as well as other cultural stereotypes such as herding llamas and alpacas.
