- The traditional Serbian naming convention follows the 'Eastern name order', whereby the family name comes before the first name (e.g. KAČIĆ Ivan). However, some may use the 'Western name order' (first name followed by family name) in different contexts and countries.
- Many Serbian last names end with the letters ‘¾±Ä‡â€™ (e.g. ±Ê·¡°Õ¸é°¿³Õ±õĆ)
- The -¾±Ä‡ suffix is a Slavic diminutive that often functions to create patronymics. For example, the surname ±Ê·¡°Õ¸é°¿³Õ±õĆ means ‘the little son of Petar’.
- Women typically take the surname of their husband upon marriage, while others may add their husband’s surname to their own (e.g. Katarina NIKOLIĆ-±Ê·¡°Õ¸é°¿³Õ±õĆ)
